In the past 15 years, Marcia Gay Harden appeared in films such as "Into the Wild," "Mystic River," and "The Mist." She also graced the screen in television shows such as "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," "Damages" and the made for TV movie "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy."

Although she was the one acting in the productions, the income earned was done so during her 15-year marriage to Thaddaeus Scheel making it marital property subject to division in her pending divorce. The large amount of income earned during the marriage will make this a high-asset divorce.

The actress recently announced her intent to divorce and begun the process by filing in a family court. It is unclear at this point whether her and her soon-to-be ex-husband will come to a settlement agreement out of court or if they will allow a judge to come to a determination.

The couple has three children together. One child is a 13-year-old daughter and the other two are 7-year-old twins, one female and one male. Custody over the three children will be determined as will any support necessary provide a life in the best interests of the children.

Harden has made it clear through her representative that she would like to keep the specific details of her divorce private. In instances such as this, especially with high-asset divorces, choosing to agree to a settlement outside of court helps to keep the privacy sought by some couples. However, even during amicable divorce, each partner should consider hiring their own divorce attorney.
